It has been considered normal and-one might even suggest-encouraged to act as an isolated individual in contemporary society, worrying only for the gains and losses we each experience in our own lives.
As we face global environmental destruction, perpetually increasing stress and emotional imbalnce, and social unrest, it has become entirely clear that this model of social interaction is not sustainable, nor is it a remotely valid assessment of the way life naturally exists on our planet.
We are all intimately connected and dependent upon each other. Rather than assuming and acting as though this interdependence is a weakness, it is time for us all to recognize and utilize the power of community, and in doing so we will create balanced and respectful social structures and relationships that include both human beings and the entire world around us. We will respect our environment and each other in a mature and conscious manner, knowing that not only do we need the contributions and support of the world around us, but also that we are happier, healthier, and more balanced because of that relationship.
